God sommerferie til jer alle!

Jeg går snart på sommerferie men mens jeg er væk synes jeg ikke i skal snydes for en masse muligheder for at blive underholdt og lære noget nyt. Derfor får i lige et overblik over hvad i kan bruge noget af jeres sommer på.

Windows Metro er den nye platform for udviklingen af lækre og innovative apps til Windows 8, Windows Phone og Xbox.
Nu skal du sådan set bare læne dig lidt tilbage, starte din Visual Studio 2012 RC op udvikle en fed Windows Metro app.
Dem der gør det bedst har chancen for at vinde en Microsoft Surface tablet.

3 dages gratis intensiv Windows Metro code camp med Microsoft. (der er i skrivende stund 6 pladser tilbage)

Det første af disse events løber af stablen d. 30/7 of strækker sig indtil d. 1/8.
Det er altså et 3 dags event hvor man få muligheden for at bygge sin kommende Windows Metro app og bruge noget tid sammen med Microsoft for at få sparring og hjælp til at lære den nye og spændende udviklingsplatform.

Helt praktisk skal du selv sørge for følgende:

1. En PC med Windows 8 Release Preview og Visual Studio 2012 RC.
2. At vide hvad og hvordan man udvikler med .NET og/eller HTML5 og JavaScript. Hvis du ikke ved hvordan man skriver kode kan du ikke komme med!
3. At gøre den app du udvikler på dette event, færdig og klar til Windows Store, til Windows 8 inden d. 1/10/2012. Der vil hjælp at hente her!
4. At komme til og fra Nordsjælland (vi arbejder pt. på at finde det perfekte sted til os) i 3 dage i træk, der er gratis overnatningsmuligheder som du også kan benytte dig af, hvis du ikke absolut skal hjem.
5. Vide hvilken app du vil bygge! Kig evt. på hvad der kunne være interessant at porte fra en anden platform.
6. At sende en email til danielmf@microsoft.com hvis du ønsker at deltage, eller har spørgsmål omkring eventet.

Microsoft had a major launch event for Windows Phone 7 in early October that was something more than we have seen from any other manufacturer before with nine new smartphones on multiple carriers in over 15 countries. Unfortunately, we only had one available on T-Mobile and three on AT&T. The Dell Venue Pro had major issues, it was only available at Microsoft retail stores, and just started shipping to folks the last few weeks while still having unacceptable issues.

Windows Phone 7 is a platform I obviously thoroughly enjoy and I will keep using it even if it isn't that popular. It is kind of refreshing using a device that only a few people have and it is fun being unique with a phone. Having a WP7 device is also a bit like knowing a huge secret that hasn't been revealed yet and knowing people will be surprised if they just gave it a chance.

Windows phones are single-core, and I can't complain about performance issues. With the way that the OS handles tasks and task-switching, dual-core processing may not be strictly necessary. That said, as all phones join the processor race, I'm sure we'll eventually see dual-core Windows Phones with much larger screens and many more features advanced as well.

Windows Phone 7 is in its early stages and is evolving, as the development tools are still tweaked and modified. Due to this, I would truly propose that first-time programmers to wait for few days before beginning the Window Phone 7 developments. But in case you have got .NET, Silverlight, C#, WPF experiences, building applications for Windows Phone 7 is going to be truly easy for the transition.
